Laravel & PHP

Laravel is a modern PHP framework for business web apps: customer portals, invoicing and APIs, with authentication, databases and queues built in, widely used in Morocc

Laravel is one of the most widely used PHP frameworks in the world and an obvious choice in Morocco, where PHP remains very common in agencies and in-house teams. It provides the building blocks of a serious application: authentication, permissions, database, queues and migrations. ## An application, not a site Laravel is used when there is real business logic: users with roles, calculation rules, documents and workflows. For a showcase site, it would be overkill. ## Server-side security The framework brings useful protection against injections and common attacks, but it does not replace good practices: input validation, rights checks on every request, secure handling of files and passwords. ## Planning for after delivery A business application lives for years. Budget for annual maintenance, dependency updates and clear documentation, otherwise enhancements become increasingly costly.

When this guide is for you

  • You have business processes managed in Excel or WhatsApp (quotes, order tracking, scheduling) and want to digitise them
  • You need a customer portal or B2B portal with differentiated rights
  • You need to expose an API to a mobile application or a partner
  • You are looking for skills available in Morocco and a solid base to evolve over years
  • Your current provider uses PHP but an old, hard-to-maintain codebase

Step by step

  1. Requirements and data model — Describe the users, their roles and the objects handled (customers, orders, documents). The data model determines the solidity of the whole application.
  2. Interface prototype — Build a few key screens (login, dashboard, list, detail) before the rest. Roles and permissions must be defined from the start.
  3. Development by modules — Deliver feature by feature: authentication, data management, notifications, reports. Write tests on sensitive rules (rights, calculations, invoicing).
  4. Secure go-live — Configure hosting, HTTPS, backups and monitoring, then migrate existing data from Excel or an old system.
  5. Maintenance and enhancements — Plan Laravel and dependency updates, document the code and budget for enhancements on new requests.

What it costs (in MAD)

ServiceIndicative priceGood to know
Simple Laravel application (customer portal)40,000 – 90,000 MAD (≈ 3,600 – 8,200 €)Authentication, a few modules, clean data
Full business application80,000 – 250,000 MAD (≈ 7,300 – 23,000 €)Multiple roles, reports, integrations, migrations
API for a mobile application20,000 – 70,000 MAD (≈ 1,800 – 6,400 €)Security, documentation and versioning
Taking over an existing application10,000 – 40,000 MAD (≈ 900 – 3,600 €)Code audit, fixes and security updates
Monthly maintenance2,000 – 8,000 MAD / month (≈ 180 – 730 €)Monitoring, backups, patches and small enhancements
Suitable VPS hosting300 – 1,500 MAD / month (≈ 27 – 140 €)Resources depending on traffic and database

Indicative ranges for the Moroccan market in 2026, excluding tax. Prices vary with scope and provider.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Starting without a validated data model: costly migrations come from hasty modelling
  • Relying on the interface to control rights, without server-side checks on every request
  • Skipping tests of financial calculations or business rules, then discovering errors in production
  • Hiring someone or handing over the project to someone who only knows PHP basics and not the framework
  • Not planning migration of existing data, leaving two systems running in parallel for months

Frequently asked questions

Why Laravel rather than a CMS?

Laravel is a framework: it is used to build applications with their own business logic. A CMS is designed for content. If you need to manage cases, rights and calculations, Laravel suits better than a repurposed WordPress.

Is PHP still a good choice in 2026?

Yes. Modern PHP and frameworks like Laravel are fast, secure and widely used. Skills are plentiful in Morocco, which lowers the risk of dependence on a single provider.

Do I need a dedicated server?

Not at the start. A decent VPS is enough for most SME applications. You scale up when traffic, processing or database size grows.

How long does a Laravel application take?

A first usable version generally takes 2 to 5 months for a reasonable scope. Integrations with external systems and data migration often lengthen the schedule.

Who should maintain the application?

Ideally a team or provider familiar with Laravel best practices, with documented and version-controlled code. Require delivery of the Git repository, access and documentation.
