Packaging

Packaging is often the first physical contact between a product and its customer. It must look right, hold up and be compliant. The graphic design is only part of the job: the structure, the materials and the printer's constraints determine the result as much as the artwork. ## Graphics that respect manufacturing Supplier constraints (background colours, margins, materials) come before aesthetics: creating graphics without checking them leads to reprinting. A range needs a shared system that distinguishes each product clearly. ## Legal information Mandatory mentions (composition, allergens, net weight, origin) allow sales and customs checks to go smoothly. Printing a missing label later means re-labelling or losing stock. ## Shipping and export With most sales online, the shipping box is part of the experience: neither too large nor too fragile. For exports, bilingual texts and country-specific mentions avoid unpleasant surprises at customs. When this guide is for you
- You are launching a product and need a box, bottle or pouch
- Your current packaging is dull, expensive or breaks during transport
- You are expanding into retail or large-scale distribution with specific requirements
- You want packaging that tells consumers about your values (local, eco-friendly, premium)
Step by step
- Define the brief and constraints — Specify the product, how it will be stored and transported, the sales channel (shop, market, e-commerce) and the required information (composition, allergens, origin, net weight).
- Design and visual identity — Work on the logo lock-up, colours, typography and information hierarchy. Check legibility from one metre away and in a small thumbnail for e-commerce.
- Choose structure and format — Compare cardboard, recycled paper, plastic, glass and pouches for protection, cost, print quality and recyclability. Test the die-line, folding and resistance to transport.
- Prototype and test — Print a white mock-up and a prototype and test them in real conditions: transport, stacking, durability, shelf life. Check that everything required by regulation is present.
- Prepare files and produce — Prepare print-ready files (bleed, cut lines, overprints and colour separation), compare printers in Morocco and abroad, check minimum quantities and lead times, and plan reorders.
What it costs (in MAD)
| Service | Indicative price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Graphic packaging design | 5,000 – 15,000 MAD (≈ 450 – 1,400 €) | Main face, secondary faces and a range variation |
| Range management (3 to 6 products) | 12,000 – 25,000 MAD (≈ 1,100 – 2,300 €) | A shared visual system that distinguishes each product |
| Structure study and prototype | 3,000 – 12,000 MAD (≈ 270 – 1,100 €) | Die-line, white mock-up, transport resistance test |
| E-commerce packaging (shipping box) | 4,000 – 12,000 MAD (≈ 370 – 1,100 €) | Excluding printing: watch the unit cost on small volumes |
| Export or new-language adaptation | 2,000 – 8,000 MAD (≈ 180 – 730 €) | Bilingual texts and mentions specific to the destination country |
| Preparing files for the printer | 1,500 – 5,000 MAD (≈ 140 – 450 €) | Bleed, cut lines, overprints and colour separation |
Indicative ranges for the Moroccan market in 2026, excluding tax. Prices vary with scope and provider.
Mistakes to avoid
- Creating the graphics before checking manufacturing constraints: background colours, margins and materials imposed by the manufacturer
- Forgetting mandatory mentions (composition, allergens, net weight, origin) and blocking sales or customs checks
- Choosing packaging that is too expensive per unit on small volumes, without comparing several local manufacturers
- Printing a large run without a prototype: colours come out different and the product does not hold up on the shelf
- Neglecting delivery packaging when most sales happen online: damaged parcels and a degraded customer experience
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
Graphics take 2 to 4 weeks for a packaging line, and printing 3 to 6 weeks depending on the technique, the printer and quantity. For a launch, allow at least 2 to 2.5 months.
Is eco-friendly packaging more expensive?
Often a little at first, especially for recycled cardboard or reusable formats. Volume, a simpler structure and a printer choice generally narrow the gap.
What should packaging include?
Product name, description, composition or ingredients, net weight, origin, B-V label, responsible party and storage instructions. The rules vary by product: check before printing.
Should I print in Morocco or abroad?
Morocco offers competitive pricing and flexibility for small and medium runs. Large volumes and specialist finishes may justify going abroad. Ask for quotes for both options.
How do I avoid disappointing print results?
Request a printed prototype, with final paper and finishing, before production. Check colours, text and folding. Never approve based only on an on-screen PDF.
