Graphic design turns a message into legible and consistent visual material. Its real value is not in the beauty of an isolated flyer, but in the consistency of the whole: someone who sees your story, your leaflet and your presentation should recognise your brand at a glance. ## Digital and printed materials The two worlds have different constraints. A visual for Instagram is judged on a 6-inch screen; an A1 poster is judged from three metres away. Colours, margins and resolution must be designed for the final medium, not adapted at the end. ## Why a system rather than isolated visuals A set of templates, colours and components lets the team produce quickly without losing consistency. It is the best investment for an SME publishing every week: a modest well-maintained system beats an improvised visual overhaul every three months. ## The brief that saves time The more precise the brief (audience, objective, format, tone, examples you like or dislike), the less costly the back-and-forth. An experienced designer will ask these questions; a good client will answer them before production begins. When this guide is for you
- You are launching a business and need your first professional materials
- Your visuals are produced one at a time and lack consistency
- You are preparing a trade show, campaign or event and need to produce several formats quickly
- Your social media team needs regular templates to publish without getting stuck
Step by step
- Brief and audit of existing materials — List the materials needed, formats, audiences and print or publication constraints. Review what exists to identify what works and what needs harmonising.
- Art direction — Propose one or two visual directions (typefaces, colours, composition, photographic style) with concrete examples, and approve one before producing all the materials.
- Creating priority materials — Start with the materials that will be used most: business card, social media cover, brochure or post template. Approve each item before moving to the next.
- Adaptations and resizing — Adapt the same message to each format (carousel, story, A3 poster, web banner) and check legibility when small, on mobile and in print.
- Deliverable files — Deliver the source files, print-ready exports (CMYK PDF, bleed) and web versions (PNG, SVG). Document the fonts and colours used.

Mistakes to avoid
- Multiplying fonts and colours on every item, which blurs the brand image
- Approving a design only on screen when it will be printed large or very small
- Forgetting to ask for source files: without them, every change starts from scratch
- Using images without rights: legal risk and disappointing print quality
- Showing too many variants to the client before an art direction has been approved
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between graphic design and visual identity?
Visual identity defines a brand's foundations: logo, colours, typefaces, photographic style. Graphic design applies these foundations to concrete materials (flyers, social media, presentations). Identity comes first; materials follow.
How long does it take to produce a set of materials?
A single item often takes 1 to 3 days. A set of six to eight coordinated materials, with art direction, takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on approval rounds.
Can you work with Canva without a designer?
Yes for regular production, provided you start from an approved system: fonts, colours, templates. Without these rules, the team will produce quickly but the whole will quickly lose consistency.
Which files should be required on delivery?
Always ask for the editable sources (AI, Figma, InDesign, PSD), print exports as CMYK PDF with bleed, web versions (PNG, SVG) and the list of fonts and colours used.
What budget to allow for printing?
Printing is billed separately. For example, allow 1,500 to 4,000 MAD for 500 double-sided flyers on coated paper and 300 to 800 MAD for 500 business cards, depending on paper and finishes.
