Newsletter

A newsletter is a regular email to a list of voluntary subscribers, sent with useful content and a few offers. It is the most durable direct channel in Morocco.

The newsletter is the only channel where you talk directly to people who have chosen to read you. Social networks can change their rules overnight; a subscriber list remains your property, and remains usable in ten years. ## The promise before the frequency A newsletter that works keeps a simple promise, honoured every week or every month. Subscribers know when and what they will receive. As soon as that contract is broken — too many sends, too much advertising — unsubscribes rise and the list loses its value. ## A list that is earned Subscribers gained in exchange for useful content are generally the most engaged. A visible form, a practical guide and a clear sentence about future content will attract genuinely interested people, which increases open and conversion rates. ## Steering with simple figures Four indicators are enough: open rate, click rate, unsubscribe rate and number of enquiries. A falling open rate signals a weak email subject; a falling click rate signals content that is not relevant enough. Corrections are made from one send to the next.

When this guide is for you

  • You rely on Instagram or Facebook to reach customers and are losing visibility
  • You publish good content on your blog but few people come back to it
  • You want to keep a regular link with customers who do not buy every month
  • You are preparing a product launch and need an audience to announce it to
  • You want to nurture prospects over long cycles without following up one by one

Step by step

  1. Define the promise — A good newsletter keeps a precise promise: "every month, 3 ideas to sell better online". Format, frequency and tone are set before the first sign-up, to avoid an abrupt change that loses subscribers.
  2. Build the list — A form on the site, a free resource (guide, template, tool) in exchange for an email, sign-ups at events and on the checkout page. State clearly what readers will get and how often.
  3. Write and send — A clear email subject, useful content, a single call to action and a footer with an unsubscribe link. Test the display on mobile and send at a regular time.
  4. Measure and adjust — Track open rate, click rate, unsubscribes and the enquiries generated. If unsubscribes rise, it is often a sign that the frequency or content no longer matches the promise.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying or importing email lists: spam, destroyed domain reputation, law 09-08 not complied with
  • Changing frequency without warning, or sending too often, which causes unsubscribes
  • Sending a purely promotional newsletter without useful content, so readers stop opening it
  • Forgetting the unsubscribe link or the physical address, which are legal requirements for marketing emails

Frequently asked questions

How often should a newsletter be sent?

For an SME, once a month or every two weeks is enough. Consistency matters more than frequency: a monthly appointment kept is better than a weekly pace abandoned after a few weeks.

How many subscribers are needed for a newsletter to be useful?

A well-targeted list of 300 to 500 subscribers already generates enquiries. There is no need to wait for thousands of sign-ups: what matters is how relevant the audience is and the quality of the content.

Is acquiring subscribers worth the cost?

Yes, if the cost per subscriber stays below the average value of a customer. Offering a useful guide rather than buying cost-per-click advertising is often cheaper and produces a more engaged list.

How can I avoid my emails going to spam?

Send only to voluntary subscribers, avoid heavy attachments and overly promotional wording, add an unsubscribe link and configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your sending domain.

Is a French-language email enough?

If your customers are French-speaking, yes. For an Arabic- or English-speaking audience, one version per language, with a form that records the preference, avoids poorly targeted sends and unsubscribes.
